The third option, leaving the car at home and taking a taxi, often costs more than a month of parking once you live more than 30 kilometres away.

Three tips before a long stay

• Photograph the odometer and fuel level at drop-off: it avoids any debate on return.
• A tired battery does not enjoy four weeks of standstill: a check before departure costs less than a jump-start after.
• Save your booking reference in your phone: on return, everything runs on it.
